The Medical Fleet is the name given to the fleet of eight primary medical vessels that are tasked with responding to varying medical crises. This fleet was founded in 2387 as a response to the Hobus Supernova and lessons learned from the event, with Starfleet acknowledging that they needed to do better in times of planetary-scale disasters. Augmented by regular medical vessels, the fleet is made up of a number of different ship classes and traits, giving them the ability to assist in various circumstances.
Three hospital vessels - the USS Curie, USS Pasteur, and USS Sinoussi - work on standard tours and can respond to outbreaks on an interplanetary scale. The USS Chakara and USS Salk are designed for disaster response and emergency aid, and the USS Xichun working along with them is a mycelial rescue vessel, using its spore drive to navigate dangerous terrain that other ships would have difficulty maneuvering in. The USS Inglis is designed to respond specifically to CBRN threats against the Federation and its allies.
The medical fleet is commanded from its flagship, the USS Dunant. The head of the Medical Fleet is Rear Admiral Vuzo Prosos.
